Bernadette Fitzsimmons

Research Grant and Volunteer Manager

Bernadette K. Fitzsimmons is a native Washingtonian with over 20 years’ experience working and volunteering in various medical associations, organizations, and advisory boards in medical research/writing, health advocacy, and program planning.  Bernadette looks forward to tying her broad background in health to contribute in her new role at BCAN, coordinating the administration of research grants awarded to young investigators and innovators seeking novel treatments and cures for bladder cancer.  She has found it rewarding to connect patients to BCAN’s Survivor-to-Survivor program and looks forward to expanding the pool of volunteers.  She enjoys reading, writing, traveling, music, photography, and cooking. Fluent in the Slovenian language, Bernadette often translates articles and letters.  Her first full book translation for a children’s story was published in 2018 by the former Ambassador of Slovenia to the U.S.
