Bladder Cancer Awareness Month 2025

What is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month?

Each May, Bladder Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) serves as a vital opportunity to spotlight one of the most common cancers in the United States. This national observance aims to educate the public about bladder cancer’s warning signs, risk factors, and the latest advancements in treatment, all while emphasizing the importance of early detection.

By shining a light on bladder cancer, BCAM helps reduce stigma, encourages open conversations, and builds a sense of community for those impacted. It also reinforces the value of routine health screenings to catch the disease in its earliest stages.

During the month of May, we take a closer look at the different forms of bladder cancer, offering education and awareness through a variety of resources. Each week, we focused on a specific subtype, sharing treatment information alongside real patient stories, videos, podcasts, webinars, and more. How do we celebrate BCAM?

May is full of activities in observance of Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. These include:

  • Walks to End Bladder Cancer: Joining a Walk to End Bladder Cancer is more than just taking steps—it’s a powerful way to drive change. These signature events raise crucial awareness and funding that fuel bladder cancer research, advocacy efforts, and essential support services for patients and their loved ones. Every participant helps BCAN expand its reach and continue providing life-changing resources to those affected by this disease.
  • Ask the Experts: This unique, interactive Zoom session offers members of the BCAN community an exclusive opportunity to engage directly with two of the United States’ foremost bladder cancer specialists. This year’s experts are Laura Bukavina, MD, MPH of the Cleveland Clinic and Matthew Milowsky, MD, FASCO of the University of North Carolina. We also invite you to watch last year’s Ask the Experts broadcast.
  • Art As Therapy: During May, BCAN will feature works of art from members of our community who have expressed that producing the art has helped them deal with their own bladder cancer diagnosis or that of a loved one. Check out last year’s Art as Therapy submissions.
  • Beacon of Hope: For the fifth consecutive year, we are asking people in the bladder cancer community to nominate someone who has been a beacon of light, help and support during yours or your loved one’s bladder cancer journeys. Nominate your Beacon of Hope.
