Karen Sachse

Karen Sachse brings a wealth of experience to the BCAN Board of Directors.   She is a bladder cancer survivor, was a caregiver to her husband, Roger who also had bladder cancer, and is an Oncology Nurse Navigator at the Inova Schar Cancer Institute in Alexandria, VA.

At Inova Schar, Karen conducts educational programs targeted for patients and caregivers and initiated and co-facilitates bladder cancer support group for patients and caregivers.  She also collaborates with community cancer centers to provide additional resources to patients. Karen gives back to the BCAN community and is the co-moderator of its monthly online support group for women with bladder cancer, Female Focus. 

Karen was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2010, and her husband, Roger, was diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer in 2016.  Sadly, Roger did not survive his disease.

Karen has been volunteering her time and efforts with BCAN for some time and is passionate about its Walks to End Bladder Cancer as a way to honor Roger and spread awareness about the disease.
