Michael Porter, MD, MS

Michael P. Porter, M.D., MS is an Associate Professor of Urology and Adjunct Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Washington and a member of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. He earned his MD at the University of Iowa and completed an internship in general surgery and residency in urology at the University of Washington. Dr. Porter earned a masters degree in epidemiology during his surgical residency and completed a 2 year health service research fellowship with the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Washington before joining the faculty in 2005.

Dr. Porter is the Assistant Chief of Urology at the VA Puget Sound health Care System where he has cares for Veterans with bladder, prostate and kidney cancer. He is an educator who serves at the Medical Student Clerkship Director for the Department of Urology and he works daily with urology residents at all levels of training. Dr. Porter is a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Bladder Cancer Task Force, and serves as a member on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Bladder Cancer treatment guideline panel. He is a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology and the American Urological Society. He has authored over 40 peer reviewed scientific papers, and his research interests include advanced imaging modalities for bladder cancersurveillance, outcomes of surgical care for urologic cancer, and disparities in urologic surgical cancer care.
