Ask the Experts 2024

On May 22, 2024, BCAN’s Vice President of Research, Education and Marketing, Rebecca Johnson, steered an enlightening dialogue on the current and future landscape of bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment. The evening’s experts were Dr. Brendan Guercio, a medical oncologist from the University of Rochester, and Dr. Matthew Mossanen, a urologist from Harvard Medical Center.

Meet the Experts

Dr. Brendan Guercio’s areas of expertise include the use of cutting-edge immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy in the treatment of genitourinary cancers, with a focus on the development of new forms of therapy through clinical trials. Dr. Guercio has authored research articles in multiple journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has received Young Investigator Awards from the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, the ASCO Conquer Cancer Foundation and has been a recipient of research support from the NIH/NCI.

Dr. Guercio previously served as an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and as a Visiting Investigator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Guercio is also the recipient of a 2021 BCAN Young Investigator Award.

Dr. Matthew Mossanen is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Los Angeles, CA and received his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He also holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, MA. Dr. Mossanen completed a residency in Urology from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, followed by a fellowship in Urologic Oncology in the Combined Harvard Urologic Oncology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Mossanen has been board certified by the American Board of Urology since 2020.

Dr. Mossanen is the recipient of a 2020 BCAN Young Investigator Award.
