BCAN to Grant First-Ever Multiple Bladder Cancer Research Innovation Awards in 2021

December 2, 2020 | Bethesda, MD – The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is pleased to announce that for the first time ever, it will offer two Bladder Cancer Research Innovation Awards in 2021. These awards will support the work of two experienced investigators with novel and creative projects designed to produce significant advances in our understanding of the management of bladder cancer. Both awarded proposals will be funded for $300,000 for two years ($150,000 per year).

“We are delighted to offer multiple awards this year for the first time,” said Andrea Maddox-Smith, Chief Executive Officer of BCAN.  “Our hope is that two awards will double the impact of innovative bladder cancer research to help the more than half a million Americans living with this disease.”

The BCAN Bladder Cancer Research Innovation Awards support high risk, high reward projects with great potential to produce breakthroughs in our understanding of bladder cancer.  These awards are available to full time, independent investigators affiliated with non-profit academic, medical or research institutions within the United States or Canada. The proposed research may be basic, translational, clinical or epidemiological and must have direct applicability and relevance to bladder cancer. Conceptual or technological innovation is essential.

Eligible recipients include investigators who have experience in other areas of cancer or biomedical and health science research with promising approaches that can be applied to bladder cancer research. The proposed research must have direct applicability and relevance to bladder cancer. Letters of Intent are due January 13, 2021 by 5:00 PM EST.
