BCAN Announces Hiring of Its First-Ever Chief Development Officer

Robert Demske to lead bladder cancer non-profit’s strategic development efforts

(August 1, 2022 – Bethesda, MD) Today, the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) announced the hiring of its first-ever Chief Development Officer, Robert (Rob) Demske.

For more than 25 years, Rob has applied his professional skills and leadership working for a myriad of healthcare, education, civil rights, legal assistance and humanitarian non-profits. His expertise in creating collaborative partnerships with industry, inspiring dynamic fundraising campaigns, and energizing major gift initiatives have led to dynamic growth with these organizations.

“I am pleased to welcome Rob to the BCAN family,” said Andrea Maddox-Smith, BCAN’s Chief Executive Officer.  “His vast experience in development will help us achieve the transformational growth we plan for to serve even more bladder cancer patients and families.”

As BCAN’s Chief Development Officer, Rob is responsible for the planning and execution of the organization’s development strategy. He is also responsible for facilitating the philanthropic relationships with BCAN’s strategic partners that provide the necessary educational and support services to patients, caregivers and the medical community to help navigate their bladder cancer journeys.

“I welcome the opportunity to continue to build on BCAN’s successful existing philanthropic relationships as well as introduce new innovative funding opportunities for donors,” said Rob. “Raising additional revenue for BCAN is critical, so that bladder cancer patients and their families have the latest clinical information to help navigate their cancer journey.”

Prior to joining BCAN, Rob was the principal of RD Consulting and has extensive experience in the cancer arena gained during his role as Vice President of Development for the Association of Community Cancer Centers.

Rob earned his JD from the University of New Hampshire School of Law.
