Eugene’s Bike Ride Across America

See Eugene’s video update from June 2, 2025

I’m Eugene Bernosky, a bladder and kidney cancer survivor and am living my best life after cancer! Adjusting to the physical changes resulting from surgeries, chemotherapy and adjuvant treatments is a challenge for anyone. I am here to say life is well lived after survival.

Eugene living his best life

I went on the journey to remission twice with the full expectation that I’d maintain my active lifestyle, that includes cycling, surfing, kayaking and all things active and outdoors. But cycling has always been my biggest passion. After losing my bladder, I started doing more riding and have become a bit of an ultra-endurance athlete, riding longer and harder than I did before diagnosis, competing the last three years in the 12-hour world time trial championships.

Follow the daily updates on Eugene’s Facebook page.

On May 24th, 2025, I will embark on my greatest athletic challenge yet – pedaling across the United States from Oceanside, California to Washington DC in 21 days.  A 3000-mile Dash riding on average 150 miles per day across deserts, mountains and through the USA heartland.

I admit crossing the USA on a bicycle is something I always wanted to do. But I also ride with the message that bladder cancer survivors can recover and resume their pre-diagnosis normal life. I am hoping others will join me by following my progress, my social media posts and consider donating to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network where I went for information about the bladder cancer disease, treatments and research. I am honored to serve as a BCAN Survivor-to-Survivor volunteer and do my best to provide personalized insight about adjusting to life after bladder cancer.

Everyone with a bladder cancer diagnosis has questions about their diagnosis. The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, was founded in 2005 and provides patients with the critical information and community support they need to thrive today – and champions innovative research and responsive national policy to inspire hope for tomorrow.

DONATE NOW! In honor of all those impacted by bladder cancer – please help us reach our $10,000 goal. Any amount helps! By making a donation, you will be helping BCAN to promote bladder cancer research education and support programs – but, most importantly, to save lives.

Eugene’s designed cycling apparel is offered through Jakroo and supports BCAN’s work. A portion of all sales goes to BCAN.  Check out the gear here.
