What is Ask the Experts?

Join us for a free, empowering session of knowledge and insight at BCAN’s upcoming “Ask the Experts” event on May 22, 2024 at 7:00 PM ET. This unique, interactive Zoom session offers members of the BCAN community an exclusive opportunity to engage directly with two of the United States’ foremost bladder cancer specialists, and previous BCAN Young Investigator Award recipients, Dr. Brendan Guercio, a medical oncologist at the University of Rochester, and Dr. Matthew Mossanen, a urologist at Harvard Medical Center.

Whether you’re navigating the challenges of a diagnosis, exploring treatment options, or seeking advice on post-treatment care, Drs. Guercio and Mossanen will provide answers to questions from the BCAN community as time allows during the one-hour session. During the registration process, you can submit your questions in advance and tune in for a comprehensive one-hour Zoom meeting to deepen your understanding of bladder cancer and discover the latest advancements in care.

Meet the Experts

Dr. Brendan Guercio’s areas of expertise include the use of cutting-edge immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy in the treatment of genitourinary cancers, with a focus on the development of new forms of therapy through clinical trials. Dr. Guercio has authored research articles in multiple journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has received Young Investigator Awards from the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) and ASCO Conquer Cancer Foundation and has been a recipient of research support from the NIH/NCI.

Dr. Guercio previously served as an Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and as a Visiting Investigator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Guercio is also the recipieint of a 2021 BCAN Young Investigator Award.

Dr. Matthew Mossanen is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Los Angeles, CA and received his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He also holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, MA. Dr. Mossanen completed a residency in Urology from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA followed by a fellowship in Urologic Oncology in the Combined Harvard Urologic Oncology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Mossanen has been board certified by the American Board of Urology since 2020.

Dr. Mossanen is the recipient of a 2020 BCAN Young Investigator Award.
